Crested Butte Inbounds 3.17.13
(Last Updated On: March 19, 2013)
By any quantifiable measure, this season in Crested Butte has been another huge letdown. At last count, with just 3 weeks left in the season, we’ve had a whopping total of 144″- or about half our seasonal average. The crazy thing, and a lot of people have commented on this, is that the skiing has been surprisingly good. Really good, even. Sure, some of my favorite runs like Dead End, Body Bag, and 3rd bowl aren’t open, and probably won’t open this year, but what we do have is skiing well. I guess there was just the right amount of early season bootpacking, just the right wind, and just the right moisture content in the snow to salvage things.
Last Sunday was one of those days that exceeded expectations, with a few inches of new snow that skied deeper in many areas. This week’s forecast looks good, on that Western flow that we love here in Crested Butte, so we might just finish this season on a high note. Brittany in Staircase:
