Upper Slate River Backcountry Skiing 1.14.16

The last week has been kind to the Crested Butte backcountry. While weather forecasts haven’t always looked that promising, each little storm seems to be overproducing and as a result, the Irwin area has received six feet of snow this week. A week ago, however, the storms were just starting and we were picking up the leftovers from the previous storm. With low visibility, we stayed in the trees. The previous storms had finally shed their loads, so some parts of the trees were a bit tree-bombed, but all you had to do was ski straight and go for the big face shots in the open.
