Axtell after work- August 2012

(Last Updated On: )

About a month ago, Brittany had just started school. It was a Friday night and she had a hankering to do something good after work. So, we climbed Axtell, and we had a few nice photos to share. Better late than never.

We drove up Splain’s gulch for a ways before parking where the road switchbacks. It was already raining a little, but since most of Axtell is below treeline, we gave it a go anyway.

In the end, we caught a perfect break in the weather and it made for some amazing views from the summit ridge. 4th bowl and Whetstone behind:

Name those peaks. Seriously, let’s hear some guesses:

Mount Crested Butte

Avery and surrounding peaks:

It was an awesome day to spend an evening, and we really lucked out on the weather since it started dumping rain not long after we got back to the car. We climbed Axtell from Splain’s in under two and a half hours, so keep it in mind the next time you’re looking for a quick peak hike.
