ACL Recovery Update: 3 months post-op

I always say that healing, just like climbing mountains, is as much a mental battle as it is a physical one. I’m not going to lie, I’ve had a few mental demons over the last three months. But, if any of them remained, I shooed their remnants away during my three hour bike ride. My pale exposed skin absorbed enough Vitamin D to last for weeks. The radiating smile on my face was proof that the ride was good for my soul.

The Waiting Game

While most Colorado winter enthusiasts loudly wait for winter, wishing that Mother Nature would turn on her frozen faucet, I have been patiently waiting – quietly on the sidelines… For the first time that I could ever remember, actually hoping that it didn’t snow. Not until November 15th anyway. It’s been a waiting game. I’ve been in limbo since discovering I had a torn ACL and meniscus in my left knee back in July.

Road to Recovery: My ACL Story, version 3

I’ve thought a lot about where to start this story. Usually you start a story about an injury when the injury occurs. But, I’m not sure exactly when this one happened – and that alone makes this an interesting story. You see, I’ve torn my ACL twice before, one on each knee. In both of those incidents, there was never really any question in my mind that I had torn my ACL. Even though I wanted to deny it, I knew it was gone. So, imagine my surprise when I went to visit the PA of my orthopedic doctor and she said, “Well, now…. I think something might be wrong with your ACL.”
