PSA: JetForce Airbag Recall

(Last Updated On: July 9, 2015)

This morning, Black Diamond made an important announcement to recall the JetForce avalanche airbag backpack.

JetForce Airbag Recall

The JetForce recall has been placed due to some issues with firmware which in some cases have caused a failure of the bag to deploy or an undesired disarming of the system. New firmware has been developed to correct these issues. While these issues have not resulted in a burial, they have been reported in a small 0.7% of the JetForce airbag backpacks sold globally.

JetForce Packs sold between November 15, 2014 and July 7, 2015 are affected by this recall and should be returned directly to Black Diamond for a firmware update. Units bearing date codes from 4275 to 5077 printed on the label on the inside front pocket are subject to this recall. Specific models include: Black Diamond Pilot 11 JetForce Pack, Black Diamond Halo 28 JetForce Pack, Black Diamond Saga 40 JetForce Pack, PIEPS JetForce Tour Rider 24, PIEPS JetForce Tour Pro 34, POC Thorax 11 Backpack.

As stated above, any JetForce avalanche airbag backpack subject to this recall must be returned directly to Black Diamond for a firmware update. The return process can be initiated via an online submission form. The warranty center hopes to return the backpack in two weeks (within 10 business days). Customers who return their backpacks for the recall will not have to pay shipping. Visit the Black Diamond website for more details on return procedures. Packs sold after today will all come with the updated firmware and will not be affected by the recall.

When developing innovative products, it is common that, with use, performance issues will be discovered. It is important to note that no one has been harmed by this performance issue. We commend Black Diamond’s efforts to ensure that all of their customers have a safe and functioning product.
