TR: Playing in Powder (23 Nov 2013)
(Last Updated On: )
With over a week of being pummeled by various storm cycles, Frank and I were eager to get out and ski some fresh powder. But, we were a bit tentative about what the new snow had done to the snowpack. We decided to “play it safe” and to a place we often tend to steer away from – the Anthracites.
This is why we don’t tend to go to the Anthracites. We counted 19 sleds at the trailhead- an all time record for us.
Nevertheless, we found some good powder stashes. Even the skin track was enjoyable. We didn’t see a single person.
I love snow on trees.
Frank.
Jenny.
We had some good turns and some fresh tracks, but the crowded nature of the Anthracites left us pondering about some different terrain to ski the next day…. More powder days to come!
- Mount Buckskin (17 May 2020) - May 28, 2020
- Horseshoe Ski (14 May 2020) – The mountain whose journey nearly killed me - May 27, 2020
- Sayres X-Rated Ski (10 May 2020) - May 19, 2020
Love that Frank still busts out the Axioms (only the heaviest backcountry ski in history :)). The pair you gave me are still in play…..just a resort ski I get out sometimes.
Yeah Greg, I just don’t get the fascination with light skis. Sure they go up the hill easier, but they ski worse. What’s the point of going skiing on a ski that’s worse when the point is skiing? 🙂
