TR: Skiing Big Bad Wolf – Red Peak – Gore Range (22 May 2016)

(Last Updated On: June 5, 2016)

Red Peak B is one of the more iconic summits of the Gore Range. Standing at 13,189 feet in elevation, it is the 9th highest mountain in the Gore Range. The name “Red Peak” is the foundation of a theme of lines that are in the area based on Little Red Riding Hood. Many are familiar with “What Big Eyes You Have”. But, Red Peak harbors a couloir called “Big Bad Wolf”.

On our approach, we caught a good view of “Big Eyes”.

But we were headed beyond that, up to Red Peak.

The valley was full of line after line that would make for wonderful couloir skiing. Larry passing by Willow Lakes on his way to Red Peak.

After skinning our way up the apron, we booted right up the Big Bad Wolf couloir. Larry below.

Once we reached the ridge, it was another couple hundred vertical feet up to the summit. Me on the summit.

Then it was time to ski! Larry entering the steepest part of Big Bad Wolf.

We love it. Big Bad Wolf is one badass line for sure. Looking back at our tracks.

We then made our way out the drainage and back to the trails to land ourselves back at the Willowbrook Trailhead.

The Big Bad Wolf is a fun line. What Big Eyes You Have has gained a huge popularity, but consider this line on Red Peak as a lesser traveled alternative. You will not be disappointed 🙂 The Big Bad Wolf should become a must-hit on your list for the Gore Range!
