TR: Crested Butte Backcountry – Purple S Couloir
(Last Updated On: April 5, 2016)
We’ve been skiing all over the state this year. Undoubtedly, exploring new areas has been fun. But, every now and then, it’s great to play in our own backyard too. At the end of March, we had a few fun filled ski adventures in our Crested Butte Backcountry.
Our friend Larry was visiting from Steamboat and I wanted to show him the goods. I had to work in the morning but we were able to get out on a late afternoon / early evening jaunt to the Purple S Couloir.
Larry booting up the backside.
The cornice that formed at the top of the line made getting up to the saddle more difficult than usual – a result of the unusual high winds we’ve had this year…
But, the skiing was pretty good 🙂 Larry dropping in to the Purple S Couloir.
Larry grabbed a good shot of me on the way down too.
Yep, it was good snow. And we drooled over other lines on the way out!
It was a solid afternoon. But, there was more in store for us! Part 2, tomorrow!
