It’s snowing yellow aspen leaves!

(Last Updated On: )

Today I had a beautiful experience. I was working outside today, alone, surrounded by Aspen trees. The weather was sunny and comfortably warm, but not hot. Suddenly, a gust of wind came. And the gust kept coming. The gust brought a present: the flickering tick of the yellow leaves in the trees, and suddenly I was surrounded by yellow. It was snowing yellow Aspen leaves. I smiled, awakened from the drone of work by the beautiful spectacle. I smiled not only because of the beauty, but because it was fall. And everyone knows what comes after fall…. winter is just around the corner.

Fall is exciting in Crested Butte. During the day, people where T-shirts and shorts. But at night, everyone sports their puffies. It’s always a good feeling when you break out the puffy for the first time. Fall is a time of anticipation for the people of Crested Butte. The typical September showings of the latest Two-Planks and Matchsticks Productions ski movies send jitters through the minds of the Buttians. We love our snow here. The Vinotok ceremony is as much a reminder that fall is here as it is a celebration of winter.

Knowing that winter is so close can make it difficult to appreciate this spectacular time of year. But the wind woke me up today and reminded me. Because of that, I’d like to share some photos taken this past weekend when I rode the Dyke Trail with my friend Sonya and her friend Julie.
