Halloween Bowl Ski (30 Oct 2011)

(Last Updated On: )

Here in Crested Butte, we are in the true off-season. The mountain biking is done now that snow has covered the trails. Yet, there isn’t enough snow to really ski. Still, the day before Halloween, we headed to our old faithful – Halloween Bowl. Though thin, we found some good skiing there.

A look at the bowl.

Looks awesome! I am headed up there this weekend. How did you guys access the bowl…Schofield or Slate River Rd?

Daniel, sorry your comment slipped through the cracks.

Halloween bowl is generally accessed from Schofield, if you can still get up there after the recent snow. It is generally pretty difficult to drive past the first switchback on Slate River, which leaves you pretty low, though I have accessed Baldy that way as well. Sometimes Wash gulch is the best way. Early season is a bit of a crapshoot in terms of which road is the best access. Think snow- it’s a lot easier with a base and the normal winter trailheads 🙂
