Undoubtedly, Gothic’s East face is probably the most drooled over feature by backcountry skiers visiting Crested Butte. From the ski area, this face seems to beckon skiers every moment that it isn’t obscured by clouds. I skied the East Face<\/a> four years back. We made the pics look good, but conditions were actually kind of horrible – Largely breakable crust. While skiing through the mid-section, I stuffed a tip into the crust and sprained my knee, making the experience worse. I’d been waiting for redemption ever since. Finally, the time had come. <\/p>\n

With the fast-melting snow throughout the week, it was questionable whether the East Face was even still in. So, I checked it out the night before. Still looking alright!

Jarrett, Jenny, and Ben were game to join me in my claims for redemption. It was cold morning as we headed toward our goal.

The summit of Gothic is always a picturesque place. We were surprised when another skier came clambering up behind us. But, happy too, because that meant he could take our picture! Ben, Me, Jenny, and Jarrett.

After the cold night and warming day, conditions on Gothic’s east face were prime. Ben dropping in.

Jarrett decided to be different, dropping in over the cornice.

The turns through the apron were a bit bumpy but fun.
