With over a foot of new snow in town, and 2-3 feet in the backcountry, I just had to get out and play. I was so happy that my friend Alex wanted to come along.

The snowmobiling was more than we bargained for. Although two sleds had already broken trail, the snow was deep, and it was hard to stay on track. Carnage ensued, and fellow sledders behind us joined us in action. There was a sled-digging-out fest.

But, it was worth the trouble. As Alex and I ascended the skin track, she decided she wanted to dig a pit. We found 73 centimeters of fresh snow on top of the previous weekend’s windslab. For those of you who don’t work in metric, that’s 29 inches. Not bad for for a weeks worth of storms that weren’t forecasted to do much!

Alex skinning.

The skiing was good. Although deep, we largely stayed on the upper layers of the new snow, which were a little denser than the cold smoke we find so often in Colorado. But, the pictures are a testament to the fun we had.
