{"id":493,"date":"2009-07-01T21:29:03","date_gmt":"2009-07-02T03:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.14erskiers.com\/blog\/?p=493"},"modified":"2009-07-01T21:29:03","modified_gmt":"2009-07-02T03:29:03","slug":"acl-update-35-months-post-op","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/acl-update-35-months-post-op\/","title":{"rendered":"ACL Update: 3.5 months post-op"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t been writing in a while.\u00a0 Sometimes life just gets busy.\u00a0 Sometimes you just have nothing new to talk about.\u00a0 Both of these things have prevented me from blogging lately.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of June I saw Dr. Beim for another follow-up appointment for my knee.\u00a0 There wasn&#8217;t much new to report except that she approved me to run outside and to do some hiking.\u00a0 The only catch with the hiking was that I&#8217;m not allowed to hike downhill.\u00a0 That&#8217;s nearly impossible around here, except by hiking at the ski area, then taking the lift downhill.\u00a0\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t done that just yet, as I&#8217;m having fun on my bike.\u00a0 And running- well, I pretty much gave that up about 5 years ago.\u00a0\u00a0 Otherwise, the doctor didn&#8217;t have anything new to say.\u00a0 She still said no single track riding until 6 months post-op.<\/p>\n<p>My knee (muscles) is getting stronger and stronger.\u00a0 At three months my physical therapist bumped up the routine to incorporate an elastic &#8220;sport cord&#8221; to provide resistance.\u00a0 I do step-ups (front and sideways), lunges, and step sideways through cones with this cord.\u00a0 Otherwise, my physical therapist is also focusing my recovery on core stability.\u00a0 He says I have a strong core, but I don&#8217;t use it enough.\u00a0 In retrospect, this is probably related to me actually tearing my ACL in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>I am working on getting a custom fit brace.\u00a0 Most docs around here don&#8217;t require it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s becoming less common than it used to be.\u00a0 But, I remember my custom brace from my previous ACL and I liked it a lot.\u00a0 I actually wore it skiing for 4 years, since it was so comfortable and increased my confidence.\u00a0 Once I get my brace, I can do more things a bit earlier than I would without it- maybe even ride some single track.\u00a0 But, getting a brace takes a while.\u00a0 I started initiating the process at the beginning of June.\u00a0 Since then, we&#8217;ve looked at my insurance policy and made sure a brace is covered- thankfully it is.\u00a0\u00a0 Then there&#8217;s the step of making sure the actual brace I want is covered by my insurance and that is where I&#8217;m at now.\u00a0 I should have that figured out next week.\u00a0 Then, I&#8217;ll go down to the physical therapy place in Gunnison (as required by my insurance company) and get fitted for a brace.\u00a0 After that, the brace should arrive in about 1-2 weeks.\u00a0 I hope to have it by the end of July.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been riding my bike a lot.\u00a0 My dad came to visit last week and we rode for 6 days in a row- many of them long days.\u00a0 The rides were fun, despite the lack of single track, and I&#8217;ll be posting TR&#8217;s soon!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t been writing in a while.\u00a0 Sometimes life just gets busy.\u00a0 Sometimes you just have nothing new to talk<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-493","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-gimps"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/493","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=493"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/493\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":494,"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/493\/revisions\/494"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=493"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=493"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=493"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
