Located near Taylor Pass, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huts.org\/The_Huts\/opas_hut.html\">Opa&#8217;s Taylor Hut<\/a> should open some new opportunities for hut travel in the area.  Here is a Google Earth image of the area, looking West.  Please note that I have not been to this brand-new hut and the location should be considered very approximate.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Taylor-Hut.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is a great zone and should give backcountry tourers and ski mountaineers a number of options.  From Aspen, tourers could combine a trip to the Taylor hut with a trip to the Godwin-Green or Markley huts, while visitors to the Friends Hut from Crested Butte could add in a trip to Opa&#8217;s.  Opa&#8217;s Taylor Hut could also be reached via the upper Taylor River from Taylor Park, Crested Butte via &#8220;Cement Creek Pass&#8221;, or from Express Creek.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the Taylor Hut, looking towards Eyre Basin.  (Photo from <a href=\"http:\/\/huts.org\">huts.org<\/a>)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.huts.org\/images\/Opasinterior.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Skiing options include the steep and glorious slide paths coming off Mt Tilton, which unfortunately are also very avalanche prone.  In fact, everything in this area is a bit dryer, colder, and windier than other parts of the Elks, so be wary when skiing this area.  There is GREAT skiing in this area in the springtime, however.  <a href=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/star-peak-4-22-08\/\">Star Peak<\/a> is one of my all-time favorite peaks.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i244.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg23\/franksblog\/star%20peak%204-22-08\/StarPeak4-22-08088.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/taylor-peak-13435-4-9-10\/\">Taylor Peak<\/a> also offers some excellent skiing and there is a huge line off the North side I&#8217;d love to ski someday.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i244.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg23\/franksblog\/taylor%20%204-9-10\/IMG_0591.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, there are a number of options in the <a href=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/italian-subs-umm-yummy-4-16-11\/\">Eyre Basin area.<\/a><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i244.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg23\/franksblog\/Italian%20subs%20%204-16-11\/IMG_5167fix.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All of these will be great options for the new Opa&#8217;s Taylor Hut.
