I realize that as I write this, hurricane Sandy (aka the Frankenstorm or any number of other media inspired names) is bearing down on this same coast along with most of the East coast.  We hope this storm doesn&#8217;t do the kind of damage to this beautiful area as it seems it might, and we hope everyone stays safe on the East coast.<\/p>\n<p>We stayed with my cousin at Bethany Beach, where they had recently completed a major beach restoration project.  Hopefully it holds up against Sandy.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/572.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was a really nice beach- nothing like the only other East coast beaches that I&#8217;m familiar with in Connecticut, which tend to be rocky rather than sandy.  I also wasn&#8217;t expecting to see a pod of dolphins swimming down the coast:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/596.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more Read more--><\/p>\n<p>The  wedding was up the coast a few miles in Lewes, seen here from Fort Miles in Cape Henlopen state park.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/646.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cape Henlopen looked like a perfect place to learn kitesurfing, with a shallow, sandy beach.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/660.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4147\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4147\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/travel-tr-delaware-coast\/attachment\/661\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4147\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/661.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"661\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4147\" srcset=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/661.jpg 800w, https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/661-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4147\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cape Henlopen Lighthouse<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I have to admit that I have never heard of floating lighthouses, but that&#8217;s exactly what this is:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/695.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lewes,_Delaware\">Lewes<\/a> is Delaware&#8217;s oldest town, and the history was everywhere.  Check out this cannonball, lodged in a building&#8217;s foundation from the war of 1812.  We just don&#8217;t get that kind of history here in the Western USA.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/710.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/711.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Downtown Lewes.  Who&#8217;s that Buttian going the wrong way on their townie!?  \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/14erskiers.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/729.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There you have it- the DE coast.
