Though a few inches of snow graced our peaks last week, we’ve largely been in a high pressure window for a while. The avalanche danger went down and we began to open the floodgates for fun in the fun zone.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, I headed out with my friend Mark who had newly acquired a sled. He started to realize the huge amount of possibilities that had now opened up to him.

I just love this zone.

We dropped into a few inches of fresh snow on a northerly aspect. Mark.

Though the light was flat on this shaded aspect, the skiing was good.

A couple of days later, greybird set in. Though the storm was full of Pacific-Northwest-style moisture and we hoped for significant snow, the front simply lacked energy. Instead, clouds hovered and isolated pockets acquired a fog crust. <\/p>\n

We headed out near Yule Pass on this balmy greybird day.

I always thought these lines looked pretty enticing…. But, better saved for a bluebird rather than greybird day.

Our ascent route had a little bit of a sporty climb. Alex.

The beauty of the Maroon Bells prevails even on a lackluster day.

The fog crust combined with some very flat light made for some interesting ski conditions. Still, we had a some good turns here and there. Mark.
