Winter has been teasing us all fall. We’d get a taste during a pleasurable snowstorm, but then the storm would be followed with more than a week of dry skies warm temperatures. While some people soaked in the sepia hues that surrounded us, I felt that non-winter lasted particularly long this year. <\/p>\n

But, then, the forecast read this:

Winter had arrived, and it arrived with a fury. We couldn’t have been happier \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

On Friday, after dealing with the first-day-of-the-season-my-snowmobile-is-a-pain-to-start scenario, I headed into the Crested Butte backcountry with Alex, Ben, and Kyle to check out what Winter had delivered<\/p>\n

We found it was good. Alex:

When making our plan, we were in search of places that did not have lurking layers of older snow. We figured skiing storm snow on top of rocks and grass would be more stable than on top of old facets. Our predictions were correct in that we found a relatively stable snowpack. <\/p>\n

However, feet of snow has fallen and high winds have hit the peaks since that day. Let’s hope that this week’s sunny days will heal our snowpack a bit so that the real playing can begin!<\/p>\n
