The Autumn

(Last Updated On: October 10, 2013)

Go, sit upon the lofty hill,
And turn your eyes around,

Where waving woods and waters wild
Do hymn an autumn sound.

The summer sun is faint on them —
The summer flowers depart —
Sit still — as all transform’d to stone,
Except your musing heart.

– Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1833)

Let my heart be mused with glowing leaves
Until the snow doth fly

For I truly love each season’s mountain scene
Under the azure sky.

I’ll soak in the scent of aspen leaves
As they fall from the sky like snow.

But, soon the gold will be replace with white-
And then my heart will glow.

….. Who says it’s time for winter?
