Roaring Judy-Eccher 9.5.10

(Last Updated On: September 20, 2010)

A few photos and some POV from Deadman’s-Julie Andrews-Roaring Judy-Eccher from a couple of weeks ago. The aspens are undoubtedly going off on this ride right now, so hopefully we’ll get another chance to ride it before the snow flies. As an added note, 3 bikes went in, and only 1 came out unscathed- Adam’s hub exploded and Brittany’s derailleur cable broke, so we had to make it into a singlespeed for the rest of the ride. Still my favorite ride in Gunnison County- thanks for NOT closing it, Forest Service!

This was my first ride with our new “chesty” attachment for our GoPro camera. I think I needed to have it pointed up just a touch, but so far I like it quite a bit more than the helmet attachment for mountain biking, at least. Another fun toy to play with, for sure.

Well, I must say the GoPro is a great camera but I guess I like it better from the helmet view. I guess it’s just a better range of view so perhaps you can also play with the chesty attachment and adjust the angle a bit? After all, it’s just a matter of preference and I just love watching the views around.

You have a great area down there in Crested Butte and miles of open trails. In Poland biking in high mountains is frequently restricted to a couple of bypass trails and you can’t go “into deep” but I guess it’s just that mountain areas are largely unpopulated in the US while in Poland it’s just another place to live (compare just the density of population: USA ca. 80/sq mi, Poland 320/sq mi !). We’re just short of land 😉

Greetings and love to see more before the first snowfall.

I agree Michal, I think my first try at the Chesty mount had the camera pointed too low. In fact, the second part of the downhill I had it pointed even lower and it was even worse. That may be my main complaint with the GoPro- there is no viewfinder or any other way to know if you’ve got it right. I tried aiming it up more on my last ride, we’ll see how it turns out.

We are indeed lucky to have so much varied and high quality singletrack around us here in Crested Butte. Eccher is definitely one that is “into deep”, as you say, as it is hard to get to with both routefindiing and some hike-a-bike that some people hate…

Got something to say? We love your comments!
