The Hunt For GPS

(Last Updated On: December 26, 2009)

Merry Christmas everyone!

So, Brittany and I decided that our Christmas gift to one another would be the purchase, together, of a GPS. Our preliminary search at REI back at Thanksgiving left us underwhelmed with the choices, features, and prices of the units we looked at there. So, the question for you 14erskiers out there is this: Which GPS should we buy? Help us out here, throw out some choices for us…

Thanks!

Well, our fancy schmanzy super duper expensive Garmin (touch screen and all that jazz) recorded an elevation gain of 1,100 feet while kiting backwards and forwards across a lake for two hours. Maybe my GPS had got into the holiday spirit 🙂

Sounds like an odd lake, Ann. Maybe Redbull should do their next ice race there.

    Frank,
I went for the Garmin Etrex. Put the “above timber” mapset on it, and I think you won’t be disappointed.

Jordan, REI has 5 different etrex units, any idea which one you have and like? Did you buy the Garmin software or download something off the net?

Got something to say? We love your comments!
