RIP Mike Bowen

(Last Updated On: December 22, 2008)

I first met Mike in Las Lenas a few years back.  While I never knew him well, he was still someone I would stop and have a chat with whenever I saw him.  Mike was a bit of a throwback, always bootpacking rather than snowshoeing or splitboarding like most bc snowboarders.  He went alone more often than not.  This year’s poor snowpack finally caught up to him, and he became CO’s second avalanche fatality of the year.  Kudos to the SAR folks who were able to find him despite the dangerous and difficult conditions.  RIP, Mike

The CAIC has put up their accident report:  http://avalanche.state.co.us/pub/accidents_co.php?accident=20081217
