Yeah Lee, that's my thought as well. W/BC slackcountry and the Duffey would keep someone pretty entertained for a couple of years at least.

Yeah, sleds break a lot. Especially ski-poos. My last 2 days in Pemberton, I saw 3 of them burned to a crisp. Still, my '09 M8 actually takes 87octane, and I was only burning $30-40 on the big days up there to ski 10-15,000' of steep pow. That's a bargain compared to a heli. I have insurance on it, which is $200/yr, but if I hit a tree it's only going to cost me the $200 deductible.
And snowmobiles are about the only thing I would ever consider buying an extended warranty for- I did and it was $1000 to be all set until 2015. If I blow a motor, it'll only cost me $25.

Gavin - there's a lot of terrain you can access without a sled. Lots.

But there;s also a shitload of easy access with a sled. You can get a mountain sled like most people do but you can also get a POS and just use it for Duffey forest road access.

Borrow a sled and try it. Its fun. I make fun of slednecks all the time but it is fun. But watch to see how much shit goes wrong and stuff breaks down. Now think of spending time and money fixing it. Think of how much premium gas costs.

My obsession with gear is likely to get me a sled before the actual need for it.

The big question is: are there less Aussies in BCs sled accessed backcountry?
