One of the most wonderful things about Crested Butte is it’s backcountry. Although the ski resort tends to get about 250-300 inches of snow a year, areas of our backcountry often get twice the snow. Some storms give us a little treat. 1-2 inches at the ski area can translate to 1-2 feet in areas of the backcountry. We had an idea that this would be the scenario that developed today, and we couldn’t have been more right on.
We broke out our sleds for the first time this year. For me, it’s been 11 months since I’ve taken my Arctic Cat Cougar for a ride, having broken it a few weeks before I blew my knee in February. It was good to be reunited with the Cougar and she liked the ride, except for the several times I took her off the track and got her stuck.
Joined by Tom Runcie, Trevor Main, and Rob Dickinson, As we rode deeper and deeper into the heart of the backcountry, the snow got deeper and deeper itself. By the time we reached our destination, the new snowfall was about 2 feet. Here’s a few photos shot by our friend Tom Runcie.
