The WRX version looks like a great idea, since our only complaint with the Seek IV was the lack of waterproofing. But we have no experience with them. Let us know if you decide to go that way, and what you make of them! As far as laces vs. velcro vs. ratchets, I'm normally a fan of velcro and ratchets on my standard bike shoes, but with these, since I was mostly after great walkability, I really liked the laces. Velcro and ratchets tend to make for a less even flex and hot spots, IMO. The laces are kind of a pain if you're used to taking your shoes off for water crossings, though.

I'd like to know how well the WRX version works for water/snow proofing as when I end up mtn bike epics it often seems to get wet. Plus, for bikepacking they would be nice.

Any notes on the lacing? Would you rather velcro or ratcheting straps?

Cheers
